Infanta Elena of Spain participates in awards ceremony for Child and Youth Painting Contest for Schools

Her Royal Highness Infanta Elena of Spain, an older sister to King Felipe, participated in an awards ceremony for the “Child and Youth Painting Contest for Schools” of Patrimonio yesterday in Madrid at the Royal Palace of El Pardo’s Patio de los Borbones.

She presented the prizes to the students of this school competition which had the themes of “monuments, historic gardens or sources attached to National Heritage, as well as all those palaces, residences and religious foundations historically linked to the Spanish Crown,” according to Casa Real.

Students from the 5th and 6th years of primary education and the first year of obligatory secondary education participated in the painting competition.

Also in attendance were the President of the National Heritage Council, Alfredo Pérez de Armiñán; Adviser of Cultural Programmes of National Heritage, Pilar Martín-Laborda; and advisor of the Directorate of Official and Cultural Acts of the National Heritage, Justino García del Vello.

The ceremony began with a welcome from the Directorate of Official and Cultural Acts of the National Heritage, María del Mar Gómez. Violinist María Dueñas and pianist Pablo Jaras both performed before the awards were handed out.

Some of the award winners included Diego Jordá, Lara Hernández, Marina Cruz, and Carmen Quintanilla who had their artwork put on display. Some of the winning works were of the Royal Palace in Madrid, Gardens of the Campo del Moro, Royal Monastery of the Incarnation, Pantheon of Illustrious Men, Royal Basilica of Atocha and Royal Palace of the Almudaina.

Afterwards, Her Royal Highness viewed the winning paintings on display and met the student winners and other members of the audience. The award-winning pupils all received an accrediting diploma. First prize winner also got a laptop and fine art material. Their work will also be used on the poster for next year. Additionally, the second and third place winners received a tablet and fine art material. Fourth and fifth place winners were given a camera and fine art material.
