Their visit started with attending the feast of Epiphany and traditional swimming for the Holy Cross at the Danube Quay in Zemun. The Crown Prince and Crown Princess were welcomed by Dejan Matic, President of Zemun Municipality. After the religious procession from St. Nicholas Church to the Danube Quay, the traditional swimming for the Holy Cross was held. Crown Prince Alexander congratulated the winner who was Mr Uros Radulovic on his victory and all Orthodox believers of the feast, the Epiphany.
Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine later attended the Day of the Archives of Yugoslavia and the presentation of the collection of documents “Yugoslavia – the United States, meetings and talks of the highest officials of Yugoslavia and the USA 1955-1980″.
The Serbian Royal Family has close ties to the United States. The Crown Prince’s father, His Majesty King Peter II, spent the rest of his life in exile in the United States after being relegated by the Communists and Nazis during World War II.
January has been a busy month for the Serbian Royal Family. Earlier this month, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess travelled to neighbouring Bosnia-Herzegovina where they participated in the National Day celebration of the autonomous part of the country “Republika Srpska”. After the ceremonies, the Crown Princess visited an orphanage where she handed out Christmas gifts to the children, as well as other humanitarian aid, toys and clothes. Her Royal Highness also visited the Clinical Center of Banja Luka where she delivered humanitarian aid.
“I am very happy to be here today with you in Banja Luka and to have the opportunity to deliver these valuable gifts. This valuable help is a donation from the Lifeline Chicago Humanitarian Organisation, which constantly helps Serbian hospitals and children’s homes. My husband, Crown Prince Alexander and I always have hearts filled with joy when we are in Republika Srpska. My foundation and I myself will continue to help children from Republika Srpska with the assistance of our friends from diaspora. I wish you all a happy Christmas and a Happy New Year!”, said Crown Princess Katherine.
