This year, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia marks 15 years as the leader of the American Associates of Saint Catherine Foundation. On this occasion, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia attended the four days marking the 20th anniversary of Saint Catherine Foundation in London.
The Saint Catherine Foundation supports conservation work at the Saint Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai, Egypt. The monastery was built between 548 and 565 AD, and it is one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world. The site contains the world’s oldest continually operating library, possessing many unique books including the Syriac Sinaiticus and, until 1859, the Codex Sinaiticus.
During their four day long celebrations, funds raised for the reconstruction of the Sinai monastery in Egypt. The celebration weekend started with a conference with the theme “Boissonnas in Egypt” where photography in the period between the world wars from Egypt where exhibited. Open to an audience of academics and specialists, the conference took a multi-disciplinary approach to the subject, with papers presented by international scholars.
Former United States President George H. W. Bush is the Patron of the American Associates of Saint Catherine Foundation, HRH Crown Princess Katherine is also a trustee of the British Associates. The Foundation maintains a close relationship with a number of institutions in the United Kingdom, Europe and America, as well as with some of the leading universities, museums and libraries on cultural, educational and fundraising events and initiatives. His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is the Patron of the British Associates of Saint Catherine Monastery.
The Crown Princess has always done charitable work. During her interview with Royal Central this summer, the Crown Princess said: “I had parents that taught me the joy of giving, not the joy of taking. And they didn’t just tell me; they lived their life by giving. They prepared me for my role without knowing what my future would be. I was very young, and when you learn the joy of giving when you are young, you never forget it. I prayed to God for an opportunity to give of myself since that is happiness, and God gave me Alexander and a whole country. So when you pray, you have to make sure that is what you want.”
