Yesterday, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander and his wife, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia attended a fundraiser event in Northwood Hills near London. The humanitarian concert at Fairfield Evangelical Church in Northwood Hills was dedicated to raising money for an ambulance for the Toponica Special Psychiatric Hospital near the city of Nis in Serbia.
Toponica Special Psychiatric Hospital’s current ambulance is more than 30-years-old, so the hospital needs to get upgraded their equipment so that they may be more efficient. The Serbian royal couple has been pioneers in the effort to improve the health system in Serbia. They have travelled across several countries to raise money.
Before the event, Their Royal Highnesses visited Michael Sobell Hospice to thank them for their support and to learn more about Palliative care. In 2013, Crown Princess Katherine opened the very first Palliative Care Centre in Serbia.
Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine held a speech at the event.
“I warmly thank Dr Elaine Laycock for her continuous help and devotion for Serbia for over 25 years. Thank you all for being so good in raising funds for the ambulance. My husband and I are delighted to be with you this evening,” said the Crown Princess.
Merchant Taylor’s Preparatory School Choir, Chen Wang and Nick Aston was among the artists who performed at the charity concert. Merchant Taylor’s Preparatory School Choir has previously performed at another charity event at the White Palace in Beograd.
The Serbian royal couple were also in London at the start of February to raise more money. Then, they participated in a charity cocktail and auction at the University Women’s Club in London to raise funds and awareness for the treatment of children with disabilities in Serbia.
In 1993, her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine founded the Lifeline Humanitarian Organisation with currently has offices in Chicago, New York, Toronto, London and Athens. This organisation, together with “HRH Crown Princess Katherine Foundation” works to collect money for medical equipment that has been delivered to numerous hospitals in Serbia.
