Norway and Iceland have a close cooperation; Iceland was previously a part of the Norwegian kingdom and is a nation founded by Norwegian settlers. King Harald has completed a state visit to Iceland in the past; this was in 1992 which was the year after he became King of Norway. This is the third official state visit King Harald has received from Iceland during his reign. King Harald received the President of Iceland in an official state visit in 1993 and 1997.
