Princess Ingrid Alexandra to be confirmed in August

The Royal Court of Norway has announced that Princess Ingrid Alexandra will be confirmed in the Palace Church in Oslo. The ceremony will take place on August 31st 2019.  The Princess, second in line to the Norwegian throne, is taking confirmation education in Asker church under the leadership of priest Tor Øystein Vaaland and acting parish priest Karoline Astrup.

The Royal Palace also announced that the confirmation service would be performed by Oslo’s bishop Kari Veiteberg and Bishop Helga Haugland Byfuglien. Princess Ingrid Alexandra, elder child of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was baptised in the Palace Church in April 2004. She was carried into her christening by her grandfather, King Harald V – he was also one of her godparents. Her other sponsors are King Felipe VI of Spain, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and Marit Tjessem. It’s not yet known whether any of her godparents based outside Norway will join her for the confirmation ceremony.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra, who turns fifteen in just a few days’ time, is now making regular appearances at royal events and has carried out a number of engagements in the past few years. She often attends events at Princess Ingrid Alexandra Sculpture Park in Oslo which was a gift from the bank DNB to mark the 25th anniversary of King Harald’s reign in 2016. The park is an ongoing project with new sculptures to be added over several years, and it will eventually include a total of ten artworks. The first two sculptures, designed by children from northern Norway, were unveiled in May 2016.

During the opening of the park in 2016, King Harald gave a speech in which he said: “This day we have looked forward to. For many years we have wanted a sculpture park, especially for children. And finally, it is ready, now with three sculptures. Two of them are brand new, the third has been on Akershus Fortress. Eventually, there will be more.”

More details of Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s confirmation will be announced in the coming months. Royal Central will bring you the latest information and will be covering the ceremony live from Oslo in August.
