Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway will travel around Norway in a joint celebration of their 80th birthdays this year. The King and Queen will visit Hamar, Tingnes, Kapp, Gjovik, Lillehammer, Kvamsfjellet, Nord-Odal and Kongsvinger. Their travels will take place from 11th to 14th June 2017.
Their Majesties will travel both by car and the ship Skibladner. King Harald and Queen Sonja will also host a garden party for 600 guests at Maihaugen in Lillehammer on Tuesday, 13 June. It is set to begin at 16:00 local time.
According to the Royal Court, the programme for their travels will be prepared in cooperation with the counties of Hedmark and Oppland. More details will be released in due course.
King Harald celebrated his 80th birthday on 21 February, and Queen Sonja will turn 80 on 4 July. The King celebrated his birthday earlier this year with “pølsefest” and skiing. Norwegians also celebrated his birthday by turning out in large numbers to sign their best wishes to His Majesty at the Royal Palace, Oslo. The long lines forced the Royal Palace to extend its hours to allow for his subjects to sign their congratulations.
It had originally been scheduled to only be open from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, but they chose to keep the doors open until all those in the queue had the opportunity to sign. Royal Central‘s Europe Correspondent, Oskar Aanomen was the fourth person to sign the birthday protocol.
Just a few days ago, His Majesty thanked the Norwegian people for all their well wishes on his birthday through a press release saying, “His Majesty the King thanks everyone for the many nice gifts and greetings he has received on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Take a look at some of the gifts he received on his birthday.”
