Crown Prince Haakon to visit Texas with Norwegian entrepreneurs

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway will be travelling to Austin, Texas, USA, on the 13th and 14th of March for the South by Southwest Conference (SxSW).

His Royal Highness will be travelling together with several Norwegian founders, tech companies and members of the Norwegian music industry. There, he will speak to those assembled, view exhibitions and meet Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Austin’s Mayor Steve Adler.

Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the “purpose of the Crown Prince’s visit is to provide a good and visible profile of Norwegian companies in a global arena. SxSW has become a showcase for some of the world’s most innovative companies and new technology in interaction with creative environments.”

“For Norwegian players and startup companies, it is a unique opportunity to showcase some of Norway’s leading focus areas and industries,” they added in a press release.

While in Texas, Crown Prince Haakon will deliver a speech regarding the Norwegian ecosystem for startup companies with the aim of introducing the “Nordic model and what motivates Norwegians to start their own companies.”

His Royal Highness’s programme also includes several stops at technological, design, music, and other areas with Norwegian participation.

SxSW was created in 1987 as a music festival and has grown into a “large-scale international arena for music, film and technology,” explained the Royal Court, adding that it is likely “the largest conference of its kind in the world, with over 500,000 participants in 2017.”

The Royal Court also defined SxSW as a festival with “an important arena for networking in a number of industries, also for the many companies and players participating in Norway.”

The visit to the southern United States will take place roughly a month after his return from South Korea where he will be cheering on the Norwegian athletes during the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
