Princess Charlene had a busy weekend as she attended Monaco Grand Prix events alongside Prince Albert.
On 25 May, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene received Monegasque F1 driver Charles Leclerc, Jean Todt and the members of the High Level Panel for Road Safety at the Princely Palace to present the new #3500Lives campaign starring Princess Charlene and Charles Leclerc. This campaign aims to raise awareness of pedestrian safety by encouraging drivers to pay attention to vulnerable road users, to slow down in urban areas and to be prepared to stop for pedestrians at any time.
Afterwards, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene went to the Grand Prix track to meet the staff. Prince Albert then took his children Prince Jacques, Princess Gabriella, and his niece, Kaia Wittstock to meet the F1 drivers including Charles Leclerc. The couple then met with people with disabilities who have their own stands. This visit is a tradition each year.
During the evening of 25 May, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene hosted a reception at the Princely Palace. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Prince Carl Philip of Sweden were in attendance as they had also attended the qualifying races earlier in the day.
The next morning, Princess Charlene visited the hospital as she does each year on Mother’s Day. She met with newborn babies and their mothers. In the afternoon, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene were back on the Grand Prix track as they watched the race alongside King Carl XVI Gustaf, Prince Carl Philip, Andrea and Tatiana Casiraghi, Pierre and Beatrice Casiraghi as well as Princess Alexandra of Hanover and her boyfriend, Ben Sylvester. The race was marked by a homage to Austrian F1 driver Niki Lauda who passed away on 20 May.
After the race, Prince Albert handed the trophy to winner Lewis Hamilton while Princess Charlene handed the second place trophy to Sebastian Vettel. In the evening, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene attended the gala dinner hosted at the Sporting Club of Monte-Carlo.
