While in South Africa for five days promoting the South African Red Cross and her foundation, Monaco’s Princess Charlene revealed during a rare television interview she cannot wait to show her two young twins, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, their African roots. At the moment, the two young royals are too little, being only two-years-old.
She told Eyewitness News: “I am African. This is my home. It will always be. It’s in my heart; it’s in my veins, and it always will be. I can’t wait for them to come here. I can’t wait to introduce them to Africa.”
The royal has often visited South Africa since her marriage to Prince Albert. The two spent their honeymoon in her home country. Last year, Charlene made a surprise visit to her Benoni home for her father’s birthday.
Before leaving on her current trip, the Princess told local Johannesburg radio station 947 Highveld: “I’m really excited to be coming home to be catching up with my family and my friends. Just packing and thinking about it. I’m just very, very excited.
“First of all, I’m a mum. I have two children, and my day probably begins like any other mum. When I wake up, it’s ‘the wheels on the bus go round and round,’ ” she laughed.
When asked how Gabriella and Jacques were, she responded: “Actually, they’re really a handful. They’re beautiful; they’re smart. Full of energy. I really hope that in the next couple of years I’ll be able to bring them to South Africa, that would be an amazing moment for me.”
During her latest visit, Her Serene Highness visited the Gugulesizwe Primary School in Benoni. There, she demonstrated water safety techniques. She also attended the Empress Stakes Horse Race on Saturday at the Turffotein Race Course with her family.
