His Royal Highness Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg, accompanied by his wife Princess Stéphanie, Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg is leading a financial mission to the Middle Eastern region. The couple will also be joined on the mission by Luxembourg’s Minister for Finance, Pierre Gramegna and a delegation made up of representatives of the Luxembourg financial sector.
The mission, which begins today, will lead the royal couple and their accompanying delegation to the United Arab Emirates and Oman and will finish on Wednesday, 15th of February. With the objective of promoting the Luxembourg financial section within the region as well as strengthening political and economic ties between the countries, Luxembourg For Finance will hold a financial seminar tomorrow (in cooperation with the Dubai International Financial Center Authority) in Dubai, in the presence of financial experts from the United Arab Emirates as well as Their Royal Highnesses and their accompanying delegation.
Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Financial Minister Pierre Gramegna will also attend business meetings with members of the Royal Family and government of Dubai and Abu Dhabi throughout the day. Furthermore, the pair will also hold meetings with senior officials from the financial sector in the region. Following the meetings, Minister Pierre Gramegna will speak at the World Government Summit 2017, this session being dedicated to Fintech, the financial technology company. The opening address at this summit will be delivered by Christine Lagarde, the director general of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie and their delegation will then make a short visit to Oman on 15 February. There, the couple will meet with senior officials from the Omani government and financial sector in order to promote and strengthen the bilateral relations between the Sultanate and the Grand Duchy. The couple will then begin their journey back to Luxembourg, just in time for Princess Stéphanie’s 33rd birthday on Saturday, 18th February.
Economic missions are one of the key roles of the Hereditary Grand Ducal Couple, with Prince Guillaume being Honorary President of Luxembourg for Finance since 2001, a position previously held by his father, Grand Duke Henri. In his capacity as Honorary President, His Royal Highness has visited South Korea, Russia, Canada, Italy and the United States of America. Since marrying Belgian Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy on 20 October 2012, the pair now conduct these trips together, having now traveled to China, Morocco, Tunisia and Japan since their wedding.
