Hereditary Grand Ducal Couple Attend Academic Lecture at Athénée de Luxembourg

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg attended an academic lecture at the Athénée de Luxembourg last Thursday in honour of the 20th educational trip of the Témoins de la 2e Génération (English: Witnesses of the 2nd Generation), or T2G.

Témoins de la 2e Génération was founded in 2001 to “combat intolerance, racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism,” per its official website.

Each year, the non-profit organises a five-day trip for around 120 Luxembourger high school students to travel, by bus, to Poland, where they visit Auschwitz-Stammlager and Birkenau, supervised by survivors of the concentration camps. Afterwards, they engage in a roundtable discussion to talk with the students about what they’ve seen.

The students also visit Krakow to see the Jewish district of Kazimierz, and the Old Town Clock.

After the session, French scholar Georges Bensoussan delivered a speech entitled “Shoah: A Memory for Difficult Times”.

T2G unveiled a new book entitled As I Walk in Your Shoes and showcased student films made by those who went on the trip.

The Hereditary Grand Ducal Couple were accompanied by the President of Témoins de la 2e Génération, Charel Goerens, who also attends the trip to Auschwitz each year, and Joseph Salentiny, Director of the Athénée de Luxembourg.
