Yesterday, Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg inaugurated the 6zero1 social enterprise incubator. This was done in the presence of Nicolas Schmit, the Minister of Labor and Social and Solidarity Economy. The Foundation of the Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg is one of the three founding organisations of 6zero1; the other two organisations were the Luxembourg Union of Social and Solidarity Economy (ULESS) and the Ministry of Labor and Social and Solidarity Economy.
The Grand Ducal Court explained about 6zero1 saying, “6zero1 is dedicated to hosting and supporting exclusively the development of social enterprises. It provides project managers with a workspace and offers them advice and training to accompany them throughout the process of creating and launching their activity for social or societal purposes.”
It is implanted in the Differdange within the 1535 ° and is a pioneering initiative in the country. This past January 6zero1 welcomed its first occupants to the incubator after advertising for applicants. There will be additional advertisements for more a second round in the near future.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa spoke during the launch as part of her role as the President of the Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg. She commented that she sees the 6zero1 as “a formidable potential for the creation of wealth in the service of the general interest and the fight against exclusion.”
She expanded further saying, “This unique place, which was once a steel factory, now welcomes entrepreneurs who have a new way of seeing the economy, an inclusive economy that makes capitalism more human, more reasoned and more acceptable.
“I am proud that our Foundation is associated with the creation of the 6zero1, which I hope will serve as a stepping stone for a whole new generation of women and men for whom the true wealth of a company is calculated more in terms of social impact than in terms of its profits.”
