Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg marks All Souls Day

On All Souls Day, people remember their loved ones who have passed away. The Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg is no different and did just that on Thursday.

On 2 November, the Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg stepped out in full force to attend the mass at the cathedral. Grand Duke Henri, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie, Prince Louis and Princess Alexandra were joined by the Grand Duke’s brother Prince Guillaume and his wife Princess Sibilla as they attended the mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Luxembourg City. The family honoured their deceased members.

The mass was performed by Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich who also performed the blessing of the graves of the deceased members. After the mass, the family headed to the family crypt and tombs to bring honour to their loved ones.

The family was all dressed in black except for Grand Duchess Maria Teresa who wore a blue coat over her black dress. It was the first time that Princess Tessy did not attend the mass. Earlier this year it was announced that Prince Louis and Princess Tessy had filed for divorce. The Prince and Princess are having some trouble agreeing on a financial settlement, and therefore, the case has been taken to court. Princess Tessy is currently with their two sons on holiday in Dubai. The Grand Duke and Duchess’s second son Prince Félix and his wife Princess Claire were also absent. The pair lives with their two children in the South of France. Their youngest child, Prince Liam will turn one at the end of the month.

The Grand Duke and Duchess have a busy schedule ahead for this month. At the end of November, the pair will make a State Visit to Japan. Henri and Maria Teresa will be received by the Emperor and Empress of Japan.
