See what the Danish royals will be up to in Argentina

From 18 March to 20 March, Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik will undertake a state visit to Argentina accompanied by a Danish business delegation. This will be the first state visit that Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik will do together without their respective spouses.

Queen Margrethe will have a couple of engagements on 17 March before the official start of the state visit. She will visit the Cementerio de la Recoleta, and she will attend a dinner with the Danish Ambassador to Argentina Søren Vøhtz and his wife.

On 18 March, the official start of the state visit will be marked by a wreath-laying ceremony at Plaza San Martín. Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik will then be officially welcomed by the Argentinian President Mauricio Macri and his wife, Juliana Awada at the Presidential Palace before taking part in an official lunch. They will then visit the National Congress before splitting up for the rest of the afternoon. The Queen will visit the Supreme Court while Crown Prince Frederik will attend the YPF Energy Conference. His visit will mark the start of a cooperative effort between YPF and Danish energy companies.  In the evening, Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik will attend a networking reception on the Yacht Club Argentino.

On the morning of the second day of the visit, the Queen and the Crown Prince are to participate in the opening of a business conference with Danish and Argentinian companies. In the afternoon, they will have a separate agenda. Queen Margrethe will visit the Parque de la Memoria as well as the Danish senior living center Hogar Danés and the Teatro Colon, an opera house. Crown Prince Frederik will attend a business networking luncheon before visiting the Estadio Alberto J. Armando, better known as La Bombonera. He will learn more about the “Powerchair Football Argentina” and “Social Development Goals Football” projects, showing Denmark and Argentina’s interest in the work with sports as a tool for inclusion. The second day of the visit will conclude by a gala dinner hosted by Queen Margrethe.

Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik will spend their third and last day in Argentina in Tandil. Crown Prince Frederik will start the day by visiting the wind farm PEPE II while Queen Margrethe will see the statue of Hans Christensen Fugl – one of the founders of Tandil which is where one of the first Danish colonies in Argentina was established. Queen Margrethe will also visit the local church where she will have the opportunity to talk with Danes living in the area.

Afterward, Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik will be officially welcomed at Tandil’s City Hall. They will then do a press conference before meeting with representatives from the Danish community in Argentina and watch Argentinian and Danish folk dancing. The state visit will conclude with a luncheon with representatives from the Danish population in Argentina.

This state visit is the 54th state visit made by Queen Margrethe in a foreign country and the first one since she visited Ghana in 2017.
