New photos released for Prince Henrik of Denmark’s 10th birthday

On the occasion of his tenth birthday, the Royal Danish House has released two new photos in celebration of Prince Henrik’s birthday. Henrik is the son of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark.

The images were taken by his mother, Princess Marie and show the Prince lying in the grass at an unknown location. One photo shows the happy Prince with a pair of binoculars, showing his inquisitive nature.

He was born on 4 May 2009 at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. Following Danish royal tradition, his names were not revealed until his christening on 26 July 2009 at the Møgeltønder Church. His full name is Henrik Carl Joachim Alain; his first name is from his paternal grandfather while the name Joachim comes from his father and Alain from his maternal grandfather.

His complete title is His Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark, Count of Monpezat; he ranks ninth in line to the succession of the Danish throne behind his uncle, Crown Prince Frederik and his four children, his father and older brothers.

Henrik has two older half-brothers, Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix from his father, Prince Joachim’s first marriage to Countess Alexandra. He also has one full younger sister, Princess Athena, from his father’s marriage to his mother, Princess Marie.

Prince Henrik currently attends the Catholic private school Sct. Joseph Søstrenes Skole (St Joseph’s Sisters School) in Ordrup where he began in the autumn of 2015. Princess Athena started school there in the autumn of 2017.

The family will soon move to France for a time while Prince Joachim undertakes a military education course in the country. France is Princess Marie’s home country, so the children will be given an opportunity to learn more about their French heritage and culture and spend more time with their maternal family.
