Danish twins celebrate 6th birthday

Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine of Denmark celebrated their 6th birthday today. They are the youngest children of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. They have an older brother, Prince Christian (b. 15 October 2005) and an older sister, Princess Isabella (b. 21 April 2007).

Last year, the Danish Monarchy released three images of Vincent and Josephine taken by their mother, the Crown Princess.

The twins were born at Rigshospitalet, the Copenhagen University Hospital, in the Danish capital of Copenhagen on 8 January 2011. Vincent was born 26 minutes before his sister Josephine. Their birth was celebrated with a 21-gun salute from both the Sixtus Battery at Holmen Naval Base and Kronborg Castle in North Zealand.

Keeping with Danish tradition, their names were not revealed until their christening, which took place on 14 April 2011. Their full names were announced as Prince Vincent Frederik Minik Alexander and Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda during the religious ceremony at the Church of Holmen.

Vincent’s godparents are John Donaldson, his maternal uncle; King Felipe of Spain; Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille; Baroness Helle Reedtz-Thott; Caroline Heering; and Gustav, Hereditary Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, his father’s first cousin.

Josephine’s godparents are Patricia Bailey, her maternal aunt; Princess Marie, her paternal aunt by marriage; Count Bendt Wedell; Birgitte Handwerk;  Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro; and Josephine Rechner, a close friend of her mother’s.

Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine are fourth and fifth in line, respectively, to succeed their grandmother, Queen Margrethe, to the Danish throne behind their father, older brother, and older sister.
