Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary to visit Japan

The Royal Danish House announced that Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary would visit Japan from 8th October 8th to 12th October. The tour celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Danish-Japanese trade treaty which symbolises the start of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Crown Prince Nahurito of Japan agreed to be the patrons of the jubilee.

The trip will also serve as a business opportunity for 55 Danish companies, in the field of health, food and design. Several government ministers will also be part of the trip.

While the full itinerary has not been released yet, the Royal Danish House published a press release giving more details about the trip. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will mostly attend the cultural part of the programme. They will visit the “Everyday Life – Signs of Awareness” exhibit in Kanazawa to see the Danish handicrafts displayed, and they will join in the “Denmark Fest and Walkathon.”

In addition to Kanazawa, the Crown Prince Couple will also visit Higashi-Matsushima and Funabashi Crown Prince Frederik will go to Higashi-Matsushima, which he already visited after the earthquake and tsunami in 2011 and Crown Princess Mary will visit the H.C Andersen Park in Funabashi. She opened the park during her first official visit to Japan in 2005.

The relations between the Danish Royal Family and the Japanese Imperial Family are very good, and this is the fifth visit to Japan for Crown Prince Frederik and the third for Crown Princess Mary. Crown Prince Frederik visited alone in 1997 and 2011 while Mary joined him in 2005 and 2015. Prince Joachim and Princess Marie also visited Japan and met with Empress Michiko in 2011

Crown Prince Nahurito of Japan also made a five-day visit to Denmark earlier this year as Patron of the 2017 jubilee.

This trip is one of the three official trips the Crown Prince Couple will make in the coming weeks. It was announced that Crown Prince Frederik would go on an economic mission to China at the end of September. Crown Princess Mary will be in New York for the United Nations General Assembly next week.
