Queen Margrethe of Denmark cancels engagement in the UK after falling ill

Queen Margrethe of Denmark was forced to pull out of a planned engagement in the United Kingdom on Saturday after she fell ill.

The Danish Royal Court announced that Her Majesty became unwell during the day, but it is nothing serious.

The Queen was due to attend a military event in the city of Canterbury. It is not known if the 77-year-old has travelled back to Denmark, or whether she remains in the UK.

Her Majesty was in Canterbury for the Presentation of New Colours at the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.

Queen Margrethe is Colonel in Chief of the regiment, a role she has held for 20 years.

Denmark and the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment have had a long and friendly relationship dating back to 1689, when Prince George of Denmark was made Colonel. His Majesty King Frederick

Similarly, His Majesty King Frederick VIII of Denmark was Colonel of the Regiment in 1906.

Queen Margrethe has an engagement scheduled on Sunday. It is not yet known whether this visit will go ahead.
