Princess Alexandra of Berleburg has new boyfriend just months after divorce

At the end of May this year, it became known that Queen Margrethe’s niece, Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, had decided to divorce her husband, Count Jefferson-Friedrich von Pfeil, after 18 years as a married couple. It has now been confirmed that Princess Alexandra has already begun a new relationship.

Princess Alexandra’s new boyfriend is the Danish Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille. Count Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille is a close friend of the family and had been a friend for several years to the Princess. It is the Danish Count himself who has confirmed that he and the Princess are together.

The Count told the Danish magazine Billed Bladet: “We are very, very happy. It feels very good. Right now, we are only happy. So we take it quietly and enjoy it all. We are very happy, and everything is fine”. The Danish Count is well acquainted with the royal family of the Princess. The Princess’s mother, Princess Benedikte, is the Count’s godmother. The 52-year-old Count also has a former marriage behind him. In 2016, he was separated from his wife, Caroline Søeborg.

It was in May, only two months after Prince Richard’s death that Princess Benedikte on behalf of her daughter published the news of the divorce. Princess Alexandra wrote on that occasion: “It is an incredibly sad decision. We have known each other for 30 years, but it has now come to a point where we have grown apart. We have decided to end our marriage, but we will still cooperate on the parenting of our two children.”

Princess Alexandra and Count Jefferson-Friedrich von Pfeil met each other when they both were young and went to a boarding school in northern Germany. In 1998, they were married at Gråsten Castle. After the wedding, they settled in London and later in Paris. They have two children together. Count Richard came into the world on 14 September in 1999, while Ingrid was born on 16 August 2003. According to the press release at the time, it had not yet been decided where the family would settle, but the children were to continue at their current schools.

Princess Alexandra is the sister of Princess Nathalie of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.
