Prince Henrik of Denmark has broken the silence and is now speaking to the press about his decision not to be buried with his wife, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. On Thursday of last week, the Danish Royal Court confirmed that Prince Henrik, the husband of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, did not wish to be buried in Roskilde Cathedral – creating a lot of attention and anger throughout the world.
It is journalist Lally Hoffmann, Royal House reporter of the Danish TV channel TV2 who has met Prince Henrik and talked to him about this decision. Prince Henrik met TV2 on a private journey he is currently performing in his native country, France. According to Hoffmann and TV2, Prince Henrik is tired of the debate that occurred when it became known that he wanted to be buried alone.
It has also recently become known that the Danish people do not support Prince Henrik’s announcement, and more than half of respondents disagree with the Prince’sannouncement.
According to Hoffmann, Prince Henrik said: “This is related to my own life, my family life. My relationship with the family and not at least, the Queen.” After the Prince chose to be buried alone, he has received a significant amount of criticism which has offended Henrik, according to Danish TV2.
Royal Central’s editor Charlie Proctor has also criticised Prince Henrik for his decision. Read his article here: “Prince Henrik of Denmark an embarrassment to constitutional monarchy.”
Prince Joachim, the younger son of Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik, said this past week about his father’s decision: “This is not news for us in the family. We have been aware of it for a long time, and I think it has been said. We have all been aware of it, and therefore there is no more to say about it.”
Despite the levels of criticism Prince Henrik has received about his decision about his burial site after his death – has it ever been considered by anyone that >just< perhaps the relationship between himself and the Queen has essentially broken down to a degree that neither feels the need to spend eternity together..?
His decision has unfortunately been broadcast to the world which on the surface of everything may have caused considerable embarrassment to the Royal family – it was included in much of the speculation that Henrik bears a permanent resentment at never having been given the title of King, and this topic of discontentment on the part of Henrik may have contributed to the Royal couple's distance – who is to really know.?
I think this information should have been kept under wraps until the day when arrangements were needed – and the Royal family could have made a statement at that time – for the country to make their own determination as to why he chose to be buried elsewhere from the traditional resting place for the crowned heads of Denmark and their consorts.
In the meantime – spare a thought for the Queen who probably doesn't need to hear about these arrangements at every turn and let the two settle this on their own without outside interference – it really is a personal matter as Henrik's constitutional place is non-existent… which may have been at the heart of the matter in the first place, shame…
I quite agree they should have kept it to themselves and I can’t really understand why they had to announce it out of the blue ? They must have known there would be debate about it.
And if he decided to do this a while ago as they’re all saying how long ago was the Sarcophagus commissioned he must of agreed to doubling up then.
When I pass I truly believe my soul will arise and enter the pearly gates. My mortal husk will return to ashes. Some people prefer cremation, while others opt for a burial. But to be put on public display for eternity is creepy. Good for him for not wanting to be a rotting spectacle.
Although, at the moment, that is exactly what he is, a rotting spectacle !
It is tricks like this by royals that the republicans love to hear about. The Prince did not mind living off the Queen and her country, now he wants to bow out. I hope they cut him off financially, … would he by any chance be related to Diana ??
