Crown Princess Mary of Denmark presents Designer’s Nest Award

Wednesday afternoon in Copenhagen, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark presented the Designer’s Nest Award at the Designer’s Nest show, which is part of Copenhagen Fashion Week. The event was held at the Børsen (Stock Exchange) in the Danish capital. Her Royal Highness presented the award as patron of the organisation. Well-known members of the Danish and international fashion industries together select the winner each year. The winner receives 50,000 Danish krones (£5773) as part of the award. This year Shila Louise Gaonkar won the coveted award.

Crown Princess Mary sat front row for the fashion show, while Fonnesbech, a Danish fashion house, presented their 2017 Spring/Summer collection on the runway. The ever stylish royal looked very chic in a rust coloured coat by the fashion label, with a white Heartmade dress, Sergio Rossi shoes, and Carlend Copenhagen clutch.

She took the time to speak with the designers and winners of the award backstage. Her Royal Highness told Danish told BILLED-BLADET magazine, “It is exciting to talk to them about why they have chosen, as they have, and so it is important to support our young talents.”

Copenhagen Fashion Week began Wednesday, 10 August and will continue until Friday, 12 August.

The Crown Princess attends the show and awards ceremony each year as a way to promote the initiative. She just returned from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she was attending the Olympic Games and supporting the Danish athletes in their competitions. While there, she also attended the International Olympic Committee President’s Dinner, the opening ceremony, the opening of a Danish pavilion on Ipanema Beach, and visited a pre-school to deliver young Brazilian children Lego toys.

Designer’s Nest was created in 2003 as a way for Nordic designer graduates from Danish and Scandinavian Design schools to jumpstart their careers in the fashion industry. The goal is to promote the up and coming Scandinavian designers to buyers, media, designers, and trendsetters from across the world. The organisation helps to promote Denmark as a fashion nation. The Designer’s Nest Award was first presented in February of 2005.
