Crown Prince Leka II of Albania honoured in New York with Proclamation during US trip

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Leka II of Albania was honoured in Albany, New York, this week by the New York State Senate during his trip to the United States with a Proclamation.

He was given the honour on Tuesday due to the initiative of Republican Senator Marty Golden. According to Oculus News, His Royal Highness was presented with the Proclamation “relating to the role and contribution of the Albanian Kingdom, in their historic connection to the eternal friendship with the United States of America, Albania, and all Albanians.”

While on his official trip to the United States, he also met New York State Senators and members of the New York Assembly who are well-known friends of the Albanian community. Crown Prince Leka spoke to members of the State Senate to express his gratitude for the Proclamation as well as the United States for its steadfast support of Albania and Kosovo for their independence and freedom.

Oculus News also reported, citing sources close to His Royal Highness, that the 35-year-old Crown Prince was to give a lecture at a university in the United States. Additionally, he was scheduled to meet with well-known New York personalities and leaders and activists for the Albanian community while in the country.

Throughout the trip, he has been accompanied by his wife of seven months, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Elia, 34. They married on 8 October 2016 at the Royal Palace in Tirana after their engagement was announced earlier that year in March.

Crown Prince Leka II, who is referred to by some in Albania as King Leka II, is the only child of the late King Leka I of Albani and his Australian wife, the late Queen Susan. He has also served in the Albanian government in the Albanian Ministry of Interior and Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
