News has broken that Belgian Prince Amedeo, nephew of King Philippe, his wife Elisabetta Rosboch von Wolkenstein and their daughter will move to Switzerland this year.
Prince Amedeo of Belgium and his family will be leaving Belgium soon for the Swiss Basel. The news broke earlier this week in the Belgian press. The Prince and his wife Elisabetta “Lili” moved to Belgium two years ago after their wedding. Before their relocation to Belgium, the couple resided in New York where they both worked. Amedeo and his family live next to his mother Princess Astrid, sister of King Philippe, and Prince Lorenz of Belgium. At the time Princess Astrid was “delighted” her son was to live close to her in the sight of “future grandchildren”.
Prince Amedeo will be leaving his job at McKinsey & Company in Brussels to work at his father’s bank Gutzwiller & Cie in Basel, Switzerland. Gutzwiller & Cie is an exclusive private bank that only allows customers with an income of at least 230.000 euros. Prince Amedeo’s father Prince Lorenz is one of the four owners of the bank. Prince Amedeo, thus, will follow in his father’s footsteps. Amedeo knows the city of Basel very well as he lived there during the first seven years of his life.
Someone who will be less happy with the news is Prince Amedeo’s mother, Princess Astrid. She will undoubtedly be missing her son, daughter-in-law and especially her only granddaughter Anna Astrid. Four of the five children of Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz live abroad. Even her youngest daughter Laetitia Maria, 13-years-old, doesn’t live with her parents anymore as she is at boarding school in England. Princess Astrid’s husband, Prince Lorenz is often abroad, as well, as he still actively works at his bank in Switzerland.
Prince Amedeo and Elisabetta “Lili” Rosboch von Wolkenstein met each other in London where Amedeo studied at the London School of Economics. In 2009, the couple moved to New York where they both started working. Amedeo worked in the financial sector for Deloitte while Lili worked as a journalist for Bloomberg. Their relationship was kept a secret until days before the official announcement of their engagement in 2014. On 5 July 2014, Amedeo and Lili married in a religious ceremony at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, Rome – the bride’s hometown. A month before the birth of their daughter, news broke that Elisabetta was expecting the couple’s first child. Anna Astrid, named after her grandmothers, was born on 17 May 2016 in Brussels.
