Belgium’s King and Queen to visit the Netherlands

His Majesty King Philippe and Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium will next week pay an official state visit to the Netherlands, at the invitation of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander. The visit will take place from Monday to Wednesday and consist of a series of events.

On Monday, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will wish the Belgian royal couple welcome in a ceremony in Amsterdam. After the official reception, they will hold a reception at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam. After the reception, King Philippe will show his respect for the Dutch people by laying down a wreath of flowers at the National Monument on the Dam Square. The rest of the day will go to sign a border agreement and to focus on the common Flemish culture of the two kingdoms. In the evening, there will be a great state banquet at the Royal Palace.

On Tuesday, King Philippe will visit the European Space Research and Technology Centre before he will participate in a meeting with the President of the Dutch Senate and the President of the House of Representatives. After this, the King of Belgium will have a private meeting with the Dutch prime minister before King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Queen Mathilde will arrive for lunch. In the afternoon, King Philippe and King Willem-Alexander together will attend a meeting of directors of various companies from the Dutch and Belgian industry. King Philippe will also visit the Netherlands-Flanders Accreditation Organization. In the evening, the Belgian royals will attend a concert.

On the visit`s last day Queen Mathilde and Queen Máxima will travel from Amsterdam with the royal train to Utrecht. In Utrecht, the two will get a tour of the city’s new railway station and the areas surrounding. Queen Mathilde will then participate in the opening of a new laboratory working for the food-service industry. The tour will end on Heeze Castle.
