The Duchess of Cornwall had two engagements in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire on Monday 23rd June.
The Duchess of Cornwall, a patron of the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum, officially opened the National Arboretum’s new Welcome Building and propagated a tree sapling to mark its completion in Gloucestershire on Monday.
During the visit, The Duchess enjoyed an opening performance by Cirque Bijou, specially choreographed to celebrate the opening of the new Welcome Building.
The new £1.4m Welcome building is a significant development within Westonbirt Aroboretum. The building will include improved visitor facilities as well as a new Christopher Mitchell Information Centre where visitors can learn more about the arboretum’s history and how the world-class collection of trees are cared for by the Forestry Commission.
The second engagement of the day had Camilla open Wiltshire Council’s award-winning newly refurbished County Hall in Wiltshire.
The Duchess toured the newly refurbished building where she met staff and learned how they are embracing new ways of working, with the aim of providing more customer focused council services.
Camilla also viewed the exhibition area where she was invited to sample a smoothie produced through pedal power from a bicycle.
The Duchess also stopped at the new library and joined in a session taking place in the Children’s Area before signing the Vistors’ Book and unveiling a plaque to mark the opening of the building.
The County Hall building has undergone a major transformation. County Hall is comprised of a 1938 traditional civic building and a 1974 extension, now connected via a state-of-the-art glass-fronted atrium, which hosts a public restaurant and café, registration service and new library.
On Tuesday, The Duchess of Cornwall will visit the Desert Rats exhibition by the artist Anna Redwood and will meet members of the 7th Armoured Brigade (Desert Rats) in London.
