Prince Charles was the love of Diana, Princess of Wales’ life, close friend and confidante Lucia Flecha de Lima has claimed.
Even though the couple divorced before Diana died, the father of her two sons Prince William and Prince Harry, was her true love, Lucia explained.
“The love of Diana’s life was Prince Charles, I have no doubt about this.”
Lucia, who became friends with the royal in 1990 when she was the wife of the then-Brazilian ambassador, made the comments at the Brazil premiere of Diana, which focuses on the Princess’ relationship with Doctor Hasnat Khan.
“If you ask me if she had some passion for Hasnat, I don’t know, it is possible,” the former ambassadors wife said.
“But for Dodi Fayed I am certain she did not. I know because I asked her.”
Lucia and Diana became close friends after meeting at event after her husband was appointed to the Court of St James and she even spoke to the Princess on her final holiday with Dodi Al Fayed.
Speaking at the premiere, Lucia added that Diana believed Prince Charles was in love with her when they married and recalled him being “enchanted” after the birth of their first son, Prince William.
She also added that Prince Charles and Diana’s early married life was very different to the way Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have been able to live.
“Look at the relationship between Prince William and Kate.
“They chose to spend the first two months of their son’s life with her family. This was simply unthinkable years ago.”
Prince Charles and Diana married in July 1981 at St Paul’s Cathedral seen by a global audience of over 750 million.
The couple’s separation was announced by Prime Minister John Major in December 1992 and their divorce was made official in August 1996.
