<![CDATA[Flashing cameras, long motorcades and screaming crowds, three things which New York City is accustomed to. The paparazzi welcome today, however, wasn't in honour of a Hollywood actress or world-famous boyband but rather a future king and his wife.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge began their three-day tour of Washington D.C. and New York City, landing at JFK International Airport shortly before 5:00pm local time.
Arriving from London Heathrow aboard a scheduled British Airways flight, not even their Royal status could clear the runway any quicker, however, as their flight left approximately 15 minutes behind schedule.
Touching down at JFK, it is the couple's first trip to the city together and they were pictured making their way through the terminal before being escorted to The Carlyle hotel in Manhattan by a police motorcade.
The luxurious hotel is no stranger to a royal visitor; William's mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales stayed there during a visit in 1995 and The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall paid a visit when they stayed in the city ten years later.

The Duke and Duchess were greeted by a mass of well-wishers, many of whom had waited all day in the close-to-feezing temperatures in order to catch a glimpse of the Royals.
Posing briefly for the assembled media, Prince William and his wife paused for a few photographs, The Duke wearing a navy suit and tie whilst The Duchess was wrapped in a burgundy coat by Seraphine, the British maternity label.
The Royal Party will attend a number of engagements over the coming days including a visit to The White House by The Duke where he is scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Shortly after their arrival, the couple left their hotel to attend a dinner in honour of the American Friends of the Royal Foundation.
The event, which took place at a private residence in the Gramercy Park neighbourhood, allowed the couple to meet with donors and fundraise for their combined interests.
The Royal Foundation was established by Prince Harry and Prince William in 2009 and became fully operational in 2011, after William and Catherine’s marriage. Their Royal couple intend to use the Foundation as the main platform and vehicle for their philanthropic activities, partnering with organisations that share a common interest with the Royals.
The American Friends of the Foundation holds similar interests including children & young people, veterans & military families and conservation & sustainable development.
The engagements for the couple begin early on Monday morning as they separate, with Prince William travelling to Washington D.C. and The Duchess remaining in New York to attend a child development centre followed by lunch at the British Consul General’s residence.
The full itinerary for the visit is available here and Royal Central will be providing ongoing coverage of the three-day tour as it happens. For the latest updates, ensure that you’re following us on Twitter: @RoyalCentral

How tacky and rude! They are here raising money for good causes and certain they do more for people in a week than you could accomplish in a life time.
How uninformed and ridiculous ! They both shoot wildlife for “sport” and they are hypocrites. Look in Google Images. The trip is mainly for PR purposes and “fun”. If they cared about wildlife they wouldn’t kill it. Waity Katie has only six charities, do don’t tell me it’s important to her.
And Waity is still an exhibitionist and has to wear her short stuff like a tart. Being professional is nearly impossible for her.
Sucked on too many lemons, much? An ignorant sneery rantfest – and you’ve given yourself away pretending to be from the USA.
“Here for fun,” are they? Last I heard, the Duchess has been quite ill with hyperemesis gravidarium, and I think it’s very much to her credit that she accompanied her husband on this trip.
Perhaps you weren’t aware of the purposes of this trip, since you’ve been busy calling others “uninformed.” Who are you to judge them, anyway?
And if you feel that way about the Duke and Duchess, why did you come to a site called “Royal Central” in the first place?
