During the evening, the Prince who will be attending as President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, will meet representatives from the academy and will later watch the awards ceremony.

He will also take a starring role in the ceremony as he will present Dame Helen Mirren with the Fellowship Award. The actress, who famously won an Oscar and BAFTA for playing William’s grandmother The Queen, will be given the accolade to honour her lifetime achievement to the world of film, television or games.

Past winners have included Judi Dench and David Attenborough. “This is the greatest professional honour I can imagine,” said Dame Helen. “Certainly one I never dreamt of as a schoolgirl in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex.”

The father-of-one, is currently studying a bespoke agriculture course at Cambridge University, but has had a busy week of engagements which has seen him highlight the need to stop the illegal wildlife trade.

The Duke, who will be attending the event without the Duchess of Cambridge, has been president of the Academy since February 2010 and has helped launched many BAFTA programmes including the ‘Give Something Back’ campaign.

The campaign, which launched in October 2013, was set up to support young people from all backgrounds in entering the film, television and gaming world.

This year’s BAFTA awards sees Gravity lead with 11 nominations, while 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle follow behind with 10.
