‘Kate is just as lovely as everyone thinks’ says Royal Wedding cake maker Fiona Cairns

The Duchess of Cambridge has been praised as a “really lovely person” by cake maker Fiona Cairns who created her and Prince William’s wedding cake.

“Kate is just as lovely as everyone thinks,” she told Hello! Online. “She’s exactly as you’d imagine, a really lovely person.”

In the interview, Fiona revealed Kate was very involved with the process from start to finish adding the Duchess is a “very creative person”.

“A lot of people thought the royal wedding was a very grand affair but it was also very personal,” she explained.

Most recently, guests at Prince George’s christening were treated to slices from a tier saved from the eight-tiered masterpiece.

“We were always told the cake would be saved for the future,” she said, adding “after 30 months it’s even more delicious.”

Fiona also revealed she received a special phone-call on behalf of the couple on the day of their wedding.

“On the actual day of the wedding I had a phone call from the Queen’s pastry chef saying that the cake was beyond William and Kate’s expectations.”

The Royal wedding took place on April 29, 2001, and millions lined the streets of London as a worldwide audience of 1.5 billion watched from their television screens.

Kate, who became the Duchess of Cambridge upon on marriage, looked stunning as she walked down the aisle in a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress.
