Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby boy at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, London.
The Duchess was taken to the Lindo Wing in the early hours of Monday morning in what was termed ‘the early stages of labour’.
Kate was safely delivered of a son, weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces at 4.24pm.
This will be The Queen’s 1st great-grandson. She, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are ‘delighted with the news’.
Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight.
Kensington Palace say the names of the baby are to be announced ‘in due course’.

The easel was taken to the Privy Purse entrance of Buckingham Palace and escorted by The Queen’s press secretary and liveried footmen to be placed on the easel.
Prime Minister David Cameron has issued a statement congratulating the Duke and Duchess.
By the sounds of the statement, the Duke and Duchess and baby could leave the hospital tomorrow.
The Prince of Wales has just issued a statement saying, “Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy. Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.”
Our Deputy Editor was at Buckingham Palace after the announcement.
William & Catherine waited 4 hours and 5 minutes after their son was born before the news was made public. Those 4 hours were the only time in this child’s life & in the life of his parents, where it was just THEM, a family of 3.
For the rest of this child’s life, he will belong to the public, his country, the world. His life is not really his own. His destiny is predetermined. It was makes the birth of this child equal parts so exciting but also sort of heavy with meaning. … WE know what is store for this young Prince. It will be a few years before he fully understands that, simply by being born to the parents he was born to, he will become a figure of interest & history.
No one will ever ask this child the question we were ALL asked as children:
“So, what do you want to be when you grown up?”
Because WE already know. And he has no choice. And that is a lot to take in.
And I am sure his parents were mindful of that…during those precious 4 hours & 5 minutes. xo Lulu
