Who is Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece?

The Crown Princess of Greece celebrates her birthday today.

Marie-Chantal Miller, now Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, was born on 17 September 1968 in London, England.

Her Royal Highness was born and raised in a common family. Her father is an American born British businessman who goes by the name Robert Warren Miller, and her mother is called Maria – Clara “Chantal” Pesantes who is Ecuadorian.

HRH has two siblings. Her older sister Pia is an ex-wife of Christopher Getty, and her younger sister Alexandra is an ex-wife of Prince Alexander Von Fürstenberg.

The Crown Princess was raised in Hong Kong, but before the family moved, HRH was baptised at St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City by Cardinal John O’Connor Archbishop of New York.

HRH attended The Peak School in Hong Kong until she was nine-years-old when she then went to board at Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland.

In 1982, the Crown Princess transferred to Ecole Active Bilingual in Paris, France, until her senior year. HRH attended The Masters School in New York, and after that, she then studied at the Academy of Arts for one year after graduating from the Masters School.

Crown Princess Marie-Chantal dropped out of school after Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece proposed to her on vacation in Gstaad, Switzerland, at Christmas. Her engagement ring was a cabochon-cut sapphire and heart-shaped diamond ring.

HRH converted from Roman Catholicism to Greek Orthodoxy. The couple got married on 1st July 1995 at St Sophia’s Cathedral in London. The couple’s wedding was planned by Lady Elizabeth Anson and Robert Isabelle. The future Crown Princess of Greece looked lovely having worn a Valentino dress for their marriage ceremony. European royal families were among the guests.

Since her marriage to the Crown Prince of Greece, the Crown Princess has also been styled as Princess of Denmark.

Crown Princess Marie-Chantal has been honoured Dame Grand Cross of the Order of Saints Olga and Sophia.

The couple has five children. Princess Maria-Olympia, Prince Constantine-Alexios, Prince Achileas-Andreas, Prince Odysseus-Kimon and Prince Aristidis-Stavros.

The Crown Princess is a board trustee of the Royal Academy Trust, Board director of DFS Group Ltd and Founder and Creative Director of Marie Chantal.

  • Lady Martha

I wonder how/why Marie-Chantal is also a Princess of Denmark, of all things?

    • SuperJayne

Her spouse is the son of the deposed King Constantine of Greece, and his mother the deposed Queen Consort Anne was born a princess of Denmark. Anne-Marie is the younger sister of Queen Margrethe.

So whoever Princess Anne-Marie married, her children would be princes / princesses of Denmark.

      • Brittani Barger

Actually, the prince/princess of Denmark title do not come from Anne-Marie. They come from Constantine as he is a male-line descendant of King Christian IX of Denmark. Christian IX of Denmark was his father and his mother (the former Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark)’s great-great-grandfather.
