Queen Elizabeth II most iconic style moments

The Queen has reigned for 65 years, and in that time she has had some stunning outfits that have captured the attention of people all over the world. I take a look at some of Her Majesty’s most iconic style moments, including her elegant wedding dress and remarkable coronation gown.

The Wedding Dress, 1947:

On 20th November 1947, Her Majesty The Queen married the Duke of Edinburgh in Westminster Abbey. The Queen wore a stunning flowing gown designed by British designer Norman Hartnell. The dress was covered in embroidery and had a satin sheen, giving it a glamourous but sophisticated finish. It had a high neckline, long sleeves and a tailored bodice which provided a ‘fit and flare’ silhouette.

The Coronation Dress, 1953:

Norman Hartnell also designed The Queen’s coronation gown, arguably the most famous dress she has ever worn. The gown was silk, as requested by Her Majesty, and featured intricate embroidery similar to her wedding dress. It featured floral emblems of the countries of the United Kingdom: the English Tudor rose, Scots thistle, Welsh leek and Irish Shamrock. The dress also had the floral emblems of the other states within the Commonwealth, such as the Canadian maple leaf and Indian lotus flower.

In total, it took eight months to research, design and make the Coronation gown. On Coronation day, the Queen wore her lavish gown with the impressive St. Edward’s Crown. The crown is gold and features sapphires, tourmalines and other precious stones.

Not all of The Queen’s most fashionable outfits are glamourous gowns. During a visit to New Zealand, Her Majesty captured the attention of many when she proved that daytime ensembles could be just as stylish. She wore a short-sleeved white and blue pleated dress with a criss-cross pattern. Paired with short white gloves, sunglasses and a turban-style hat, The Queen looked glamorous but casual.

Golden Wedding Anniversary, 1999:

To celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary with the Duke of Edinburgh, The Queen wore a glamorous gold evening gown. Made from glimmering satin and featuring intricate embroidery, the dress was perfect for the occasion. Her Majesty wore white gloves, a sparkly gold necklace and drop earrings to complete the overall look.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Wedding, 2011:

The Queen looked radiant at the wedding of her grandson, the Duke of Cambridge. Her Majesty wore a fabulous pale yellow ensemble that suited the occasion perfectly. The yellow outfit was paired with a yellow hat, sparkling brooch and necklace. To finish off her outfit, The Queen chose her favourite Launer handbag that is apparently worth just under £2,000.
