Olivia Colman has won one of biggest acting prizes in Hollywood for her portrayal of Queen Anne. She took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress (Comedy or Musical) for her part in ‘The Favourite’ at the awards ceremony.
The Globes are the first big film and TV prizes of the Hollywood season with a whole host of big names taking to the red carpet to get awards season started. Other stars of ‘The Favourite’, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, were nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category (losing out to Regina King) while the film itself was in the running for Best Movie – Comedy or Musical (the prize went to Green Book).

In her acceptance speech, Olivia Colman had nothing but praise for those she worked alongside, thanking her co-stars in her own unique way before saying ”every second of working with you was a joy and I was so sad that it finished”. And she had a message for her family at home, ending by saying ”Ed and the kids, look, yay!” as she held her award up again.
In the film, released in the UK on January 1st 2019, Olivia Colman takes on the role of the last Stuart monarch as she presides over a court driven by ambition and filled with people determined to wield influence over her. Rachel Weisz plays Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough who finds herself in a power struggle for Anne’s attentions against a distant cousin, Abigail Masham, played by Emma Stone.
The Golden Globes, handed out this year on January 6th, are usually seen as a good indication of who will be in the running for that most coveted of film awards, the Oscars. Olivia Colman is now among the top tips for a nomination in the Best Actress category with the list revealed on January 22nd 2019.
