In a world of e-mails, text messages and beyond, an old fashioned piece of mail is a treat. However, a card from Her Majesty The Queen is a special treat far beyond your everyday postcard, and for a lucky few that is exactly what they receive!
Every year, The Queen sends out congratulatory cards to those who are celebrating their 100th and 105th birthdays (and every year after that – rightfully so!).
Her Majesty also sends out cards to couples in celebration of their 60th, 65th and 70th wedding anniversaries (and one card for each year after that). Every card consists of a personalised congratulatory message.
To date, Queen Elizabeth has sent out approximately 110,000 birthday messages and 520,000 anniversary cards.
There are few couples who can claim the honour of receiving multiple cards! One example is Percy and Florence Arrowsmith, who were sent 60th and 70th anniversary messages, as well as cards for their 100th birthdays. Percy Arrowsmith went on to celebrate his 105th birthday, and was once again sent a celebratory message. To further their collection, the Arrowsmith’s celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary, therefore adding another nine cards in the mean time!
They say say the best things come in your old age, and if this isn’t proof of that, then I don’t know what is!
