Alas 2015 has come to an end, we saw an exciting year with everything from a royal birth to seeing Prince Harry stepping into his own. I am sure I can speak for the entire Royal Central team that we are all looking forward to what 2016 will bring. These are just a few of the events that are on our radar.
1. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s trip to India
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be taking part in their first joint overseas tour since the birth of their daughter, Princess Charlotte. Full details of the trip are expected to be announced early this year, however, it does not look like Prince George and his sister will be joining their parents.
Taking place in the Spring, the trip to India will be the first for both Prince William and Kate. William’s parents, Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales toured the country 24 years earlier.
Keep your eyes peeled here for new details as they are announced!
2. Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday
Although Queen Elizabeth’s actual birthday is on 21 April, her official birthday is in June. Events have already been announced and unfortunately if you haven’t got your tickets yet you are fresh out of luck as they are sold out already.
At Windsor Castle from 12 May to 15 May, a horse pageant will be held that celebrates the Queen’s life. Members of the Royal Family will be in attendance each night with the Queen attending on the final evening.
From 10 June to 12 June a National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, a huge street party on the mall outside of Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 600 charities the Queen supports in the UK and the Commonwealth and the Queen’s Birthday Parade on Horse Guards Parade will take places.
3. Prince Harry will bring Invictus Games to Orlando, Florida
In May 2016, Prince Harry will be bringing the second Invictus Games to Orlando, Florida. The games which are for injured service personnel were first held in London in 2014 and were a huge success.
The news of the next Invictus Games came via the Kensington Palace twitter account in a video Harry has recorded where he said:
“I’d always hoped that last year’s games would be more than a one off. For me, the 2014 Games were just the beginning of the Invictus story. I wanted other cities and countries to look at the competition and see what it meant to those taking part and those who saw it.”
He also spoke of how planning the games across the pond have presented a new set of challenges:
“I have no doubt that Ken Fisher and his team will set the bar even higher than London did and that the USA will put on a great show”
4. Princess Charlotte’s 1st Birthday
Queen Elizabeth isn’t the only Royal Family member celebrating a milestone birthday this year, her great-granddaughter Princess Charlotte will be turning one. The second child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was born on May 2nd, 2015.
As with Prince George’s first birthday, we can expect a new picture to be released of the young princess. No doubt like the pictures released in late 2015 of Charlotte, royal fans alike will flock to the stores to buy Charlotte’s outfit for their own little darling.
5. Spanish State Visit
In 2015, it was announced that King Felipe VI and his wife, Queen Letizia of Spain have accepted an invitation from Queen Elizabeth to pay a State Visit from 8 to 10 March 2016. The King and Queen of Spain will be staying at Windsor Castle.
With a State Visit, comes a State Banquet which is great to get our royal watching fix of the family dressed to the nines, tiaras and all!
This are only the some events of what is shaping up to be a exciting year. I know I can’t wait to see what else will be thrown our way.
